Grant Writing for Artists

I teach Alaskan artists how to write about themselves, their art, and their businesses for the purposes of applying for grants and other professional development opportunities. I believe that grants should be accessible to all artists, regardless of previous writing experience, and that the arts benefit from opportunities that receive a diverse pool of applicants.

For Artists

I work with artists one-on-one to support them through the grant application process.

  • One-hour consultation ($100): Ask me anything! I can help refine your needs as an artist, develop art project ideas, and find grants suitable for you and your work.

  • Three-hour grant narrative writing intensive ($400): I will guide you through the process of writing a grant and together we will draft a narrative for your art project.

  • Application review ($90/hour): Need someone to read over your application before pressing submit? I can help!

For Organizations

I provide Grant Writing for Artists presentations and small-group workshops to organizations that support artists in reaching their professional goals. A typical presentation covers topics such as:

  • Utilizing grant opportunities as an artist

  • Finding grant opportunities

  • Determining which grants are a good fit

  • Navigating the project management side of applying for a grant

  • Telling a story as an artist

  • Writing a project narrative

Workshops include hands-on practice writing project narratives and opportunities to receive feedback on writing.

Together we can create a presentation or workshop that meets your budget and the needs of the people you serve.

I previously served as Grants Manager at See Stories, an Alaskan arts education nonprofit. As a writer and musician myself, I have utilized strategic, organized approaches to fund my own community art and professional development projects with grants; I understand how important the arts are to our state, and I enjoy helping other artists make an impact. I am certified in grant writing from Learn Grant Writing. I have facilitated Grant Writing for Artists presentations and workshops for Anchorage Community Land Trust and Bristol Bay Native Corporation.
